A Philosophy
Like the Alsace wine region itself, our family’s skills and experience, and the style of our wines, have evolved over the years. However, what remains unchanged, is the BUECHER family’s passion for its vineyards, its respect for its customers, and its desire to communicate emotion through its wines!
When it comes to conveying the rich qualities of our soils, grape varieties and climate in the bottle of wine, every step in the winemaking process counts! We are independent winemakers because we believe it is vital for us to manage all the stages of the winemaking process. It is only through closely monitoring our plots, day after day, year in, year out, that we can really understand our vineyards!
In order to create authentic wines, which transcribe all the nuances of our terroirs, we try to obtain as much aromatic and gustatory expression in our grapes as possible. To do this, we firmly believe that we must work with the vine rather than constraining it! Applying organic growing methods, we strive to create the perfect conditions to enable the plant to capture the minerals, the complexity and the character of the local land, in an environmentally-friendly manner.
We have always enjoyed a close relationship with our customers. We are delighted to receive visitors and wine enthusiasts in our cellars, where they can learn more about our work and try our wines.
A Family Affair
The Buecher family settled in Wettolsheim, in Alsace, after the Thirty Years War. The Buechers were tending to their small vineyard plots planted on the slopes, with other crops planted on the plain, as far back as the 17th century.
In the early 1950s, the estate’s destiny was sealed by the marriage of Paul and Joséphine Buecher. Their families’ vineyard holdings were combined and they bottled the first vintages of Domaine Paul Buecher.
After their sons, Henri and Jean-Marc, joined the business, operations were modernized and the vineyard holding extended into the neighbouring communes. The Crémant d’Alsace soon became Domaine Paul Buecher’s driving force and the range of terroirs grew.
Since 2002, Jérôme Buecher has been gradually taking over the management the estate, which has over 30 hectares of vineyards, including the Hengst, Brand and Sommerberg Grands Crus. In order to endow its wines with even greater personality and harmony, the Paul Buecher family started converting all its vineyards to organic growing from 2008.
